Kennedy Meadows Wolf Center

Established in 2020, on 5 acres in Kennedy Meadows, California, our story began with just 4 wolves in need.

Today there are 17 as we embark on a goal to double in size and to open to the public for the very first time.

Our Primary Mission is to help preserve various wolf species and subspecies of the world, including those

who are endangered and threatened.  We seek to fulfill our primary mission through

Education, Conservation and Inspiration.

Education

There is no doubt that in the past, education of ordinary people is what built the legion of Wolf Advocates who saved the American Wolf from extinction. Now that wolves have once again returned to California and other parts of the US, education is paramount.

Bringing wolf education to the public in person, is the best way to create engaged wolf advocates who will make a difference – today and for the future.

Education
MYTH VS FACT

Wolf conservation is the effort to protect, preserve, and restore wild wolf populations in their natural habitats. If wolves are to survive in the wild, sanctuaries, must play a critical role.

Here at KMWC that includes, rescuing wolves and wolf-dogs that can't survive in the wild, partnering with government organizations, providing lifelong care for our residents and ambassador animals and propagating bloodlines in case of loss/extinction of wild wolves.

Inspiration

From the time there were a half-million wolves in the wild, until there were none, and now back from the brink of extinction (there are 70 in California; 6,000 in the US), the one factor at work has always been human intervention. It is no exaggeration to say that the fate of wolves is literally in our hands.

But without a cadre of inspired wolf advocates, ultimately we will lose those few wolves who have trusted us and dared to return.  It seems fundamental that a place where people come to see and interact with wolves is the strongest tool to inspire this and the next generation of wolf advocates.
